Draw your Life -- Live your Art

I now have a second issue of diary comics.  I will continue to publish Eclectic Comics, but part of my reason for making Life is Funny was to have something I can print more cheaply and quickly.  This issue has a cardstock cover, and thanks to a great Thursday sale at UPS, I can offer them for two bucks!  It's more like the format of a mini-comic.  I've found that at comic shows, it's good to offer things at different price points.

This is the preface to issue #2.

My grown daughter Anna was visiting for the holidays.   She is an excellent artist herself, and contributed the two comic strips below.

Making Comics Every Day

I set a challenge for myself to draw a one page diary comic each day.  So far, I've been able to do it on all but two days. Today will make one month of them.  They usually take me about one hour to complete.  I do find that I'm getting faster.  My strategy has been to remove all the excuses. They are on cheap cardstock instead of bristol. They are with marker instead of pen and ink.  The size is scanner size.  I give myself permission to cut a few corners to allow the immediacy of a diary entry or sketch.

Veteran's Day

I made this comic to honor my dad -- and all the other veterans who have served our country and kept us safe.

Calder, Duchamp & Arp

I took a little artistic license with this one. We do know that Calder got the idea for what to name his mobiles and stabiles from Duchamp and Arp, respectively. However, it didn't happen all at once like this at an exhibition. Well, it makes a better comic strip, so -- my bad.

Diary Comics

More diary comics.   We were very lucky when it came to the super-storm "Sandy" in our area.  We were holding our breath, since we got hit pretty hard last year.  Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are still recovering.

Life is Funny...(Except when it's Not)

Life is Funny is the title of my new "diary comic".  A lot of my art making involves making "rules" for myself.  The rule for these is that every day I have to make one, and for the most part, it has to be something that happened that day.  If I cheat a little, it can be something I was thinking about that day.  I think the busyness of  life dictates that someday that they may be a little looser, but I'm really enjoying the immediacy of them.  I think it's really helping me to push myself.

I've only missed a couple days, but the was during the Herobot Comic convention preparation and then the con itself.  The last page here is the cover I made for them. I assembled them into a mini-comic and sold those at the con for a buck.
