I'm taking classes toward getting my Phd. We're usually asked to write a sixteen page paper as a final project. What I've started doing is asking if I can instead make a sixteen page comic book that synthesizes what I've learned in the course. So far I've been allowed to do it, and I think what I'm making demonstrates the power of art and comics to communicate important ideas on any topic.
The class I'm taking now is called Learning Styles. Issue #2 of Curriculum Comics is written and penciled, now I just need to finish in pen and ink, erase, erase and erase, then scan and submit!
I'll start posting it in sections as I get it finished. Here's what I have done so far!

Looks great so far!
Nice work, Andy! I really think you're outdoing yourself here, and I look forward to reading more. And this post is perfect timing for me; I'm currently winding down "Faculty Development Week" (which will probably be the topic of my next post) at my university, and we had a lecture on Self Paced Learning which was (ironically) not as informative as the beginnings of your comic!
Good job of developing the ideas concerning learning styles. I'm anxious to see how you handle them. Good job of keeping the humor in a serious concept! I wish I were a fish.
Man, you're amazing... when I was doing papers in comics format, I always did them in stick-figure style to save time. You're doing the representational cartoony thing, which I take to be further proof that you must have an extra-dimensional time-fold that enables you to do all this alongside your other responsibilities...
Who told you about my extra-dimensional time-fold flux capacitor?!!!
Ha,ha -- thanks a lot! I was just thinking the same thing about you. I guess us artists are always unsatisfied about ourselves -- just can't get ideas down as fast as they appear in our minds.
Andy,
I happened across your Learning Styles 1 & 2 Comic Book doing a little search about learning styles for a posting in my University of Phoenix online class. First I want to say that I really liked how you illustrated and explained the subject. It was informative yet fun to read. I hope you don't mind but I am posting the link to your page (and giving you credit) in my class so my fellow students can read it. (BTW I'm a Kinaesthetic.) I am also looking at your other word. You are really good.
