Vessel of Transformation
Colored Pencil
February 2013
A
lot of my art is inspired by art that has gone before. I am mesmerized by Lichtenstein, and I placed a container on some patterned paper I had. As I drew the image, the distortions and reflections reminded me of Bridget Riley's Op Art.
Early
alchemists aspired to profound powers -- such as elixir of life
conferring youth or longevity. A later approach was to look at the soul
as the vessel of transformation. As I was drawing it, I thought of a
container of magic potion, or a vessel that can change the way things
are.
